E-Government for All conference opens this week

It's been a busy week for me, ever since the launch of the E-Government for All conference on Monday. Over 1000 people from more than 70 nations -- from Bolivia to Greenland to Vietnam -- are taking part in the event, which runs over the next two weeks.

Along with the various virtual panel sessions and discussion forums, the conference featured a keynote speech and live online chat with Bruce James, Public Printer of the United States and CEO of the Government Publishing Office. James took questions from the audience (mostly from librarians) with me moderating the chat. The chat went pretty much without a hitch, even though it was the first time for both our guest and myself embarking on such an endeavor.

Throughout the conference, I'm working with my fellow Benton Headlines team members to write daily summaries of the goings-on of the conference. So far we've managed to keep up, publishing the summaries alongside our usual headlines service. It's pretty exhausting, but manageable for a couple of weeks.

We've got a lot of other activities going on between now and the end of next week, including a panel of citizens who've been affected by e-government programs, as well as a discussion over civic participation and e-democracy. Should be a real hoot... -ac
